This is just a personal opinion, but I am getting severely pissed off with the trolls on here. They are going to kill off this forum if something isn't done about them. Trolls, like any other cancer, are best disposed of quickly.
This forum was great fun and was really starting to grow until the trolls arrived. Clara and Danny are currently ruining this forum. What does everyone else think?

I see similarities. When
I see similarities. When people post things such as AA/bad because you have to pay whereas SMART/good because it is free - well, that is not true. Both programs are free. AA/bad because it sells literature when SMART does as well, that rather cancels each other out. I am listening to what people post as an alternative and why they think one is superior to the other when BOTH apparently have some success. We can debate numbers, I guess, but SMART doesn't have any success figures it offers. It may not be religious and/or spritiual, but one figure its own honcho gives out is that 60% have a God or a Higher Power.
As far as I am concerned, if someone has found something that works for them and is keeping them sober (if that is their aim), then fine by me!
I realize this is an anti-AA site, but the posters in turn offer SMART as a savior. Why is it not up for review?

Sorry you are wrong ben, SMART people are doing both.
Where I live the SMART meeting I visited Monday night was facilitated by a couple. I asked them if they ever attended AA and they said they had but don't anymore. They had not been to a AA meeting in maybe 8 years. They went on to tell me that they heard of SMART through a friend and decided they wanted to involve themselves. They were happy they did. The Monday night meeting had about 12 people there. I identified myself as a Alcoholic who went to AA but wanted to check out SMART to satisfy my interest. No one took offense, they welcome me anyway. I asked some of the members at the end of the meeting if they had attended AA. Most said they had and one said no. They all had the same opinion of AA. they felt it was to much pressure and the fellowship spent to much time screwing around. That personalities played to big of a part in AA. I told them I agreed with their analysis (I actually did).
I am going back next Monday and I will pay more attention to the actual curriculum that happens during the meeting. Things were a bit confusing because along with me there were two other new people who were attending.

Ben, her fixation with SMART is one of vindictiveness. Since we're bashing her program, she's bashing, well anything she can. She is making statements about SMART that are either untrue or half truths, mixed in with the occasional truth. Last time I checked, SMART had 600 meeting and was growing daily. I'm not finding support for some of her other assertions. It's really all she can do.
I'm thinking that she must find hanging with us, even though she's getting a lot of negative attention, far better than AA meetings. If it weren't better, she'd be going to meetings online if nothing else. I'm kinda feeling sorry for her, even though her passive-aggressiveness is eliciting the negative attention she's getting. Danny, however, is a brutal abuser. I have no sympathy for him.

I played basketball all throughout my childhood and through HS. I follow womens college basketball. My dad was avid Celtic fan and also grew up in Yorkville on the east side same as Bob Cousy.

No, not a blood bath and I understand you want to be fair. It's commendable. I want to be fair too. At the same time though, I can't overlook how this is all connected. You mentioned mental harm. Some who react violently to thmenal abuse. As a matter of fact, most of the violence that occurs (that I've read about), seem to indicate that it comes from being dissed by another in the program. They allow it to continue day in and out, whether someone gets physically harmed or not. Either way it's unnaceptable. That shit can be avoided but it's not. The felons that bring guns and knives, that can be avoided too. I just get so steamed. They care more about the moolah (and SAY it's about "everyone deserves a chance to recover" blah blah blah - BILL-SHIT) and allow the low life dangerous felons to stroll in anonymously without speaking up. Sure it's not their fault the Government is sending them to meetings and the Government is fucked too. But AA CAN but doesn't do a damn thing to stop it either. They even solicit felons to come join them. Greedy fuckers! LOL (if I don't laugh I cry).

Be careful. SMART took a million dollar government grant. In return for it, all those felons should be mandated to those meetings, especially since it could continue their treatment started at the prison. But there are fewer than 300 SMART meeting locations in the US. We had close to a hundred AA meetings in MB alone.

About your meeting and the police, sounds like they were going in the right direction. I'd like to see something like that in every meeting. Not just say, "no guns allowed", but enforce it somehow - like with a safety rep OR the police. That would be hard though, I'm not sure all cities would make cops available for checking in on AA. Big changes though. Oh, when I think of how many I'd like to see or that I think are needed I think it might just be simpler to start over.
