"It doesn't happen in my group" and "meetings are as safe as a grocery store" are often the answers from the faithful AA and NA members when they are questioned about the high percentage of sexual, financial and violent members present in Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous. Normally the "Corrections Committees" prospect hunting trips are made up of "volunteers" from individual groups guided by the local Intergroup to go to jails and prisons to recruit the incarcerated to come and worship the writings of Bill Wilson in residential communities and Churches. In essence, it doesn't happen at the group level, it happens one level up.
The "Corrections Committee" member goes to jails and prisons to spread the word of the joyous, wonderful, free and anonymous rooms of Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and Narcotics Anonymous (NA) available to all, no matter what crime they committed. These devout 12 Step members "volunteer" to go to jails and prisons using their own money for gas and often even purchase the literature to entice these criminals back to their home group, because you can "only keep what you have, by giving it away." Many times, the prisoners attend these meetings because they realize that by learning a few slogans and the words Spiritual, Humble, Higher Power and the phrase "Spiritual, not Religious" that freedom from incarceration is just around the corner.
Prospect hunting trips for AA and NA in jails, target market to the local criminals which the local police have brought together in one place for the indoctrination of these individuals to the anonymous fellowship they can use as a "get out of jail free" card. This means that when they get out, they can quickly congregate in the local community under a veil of anonymity with like minded people.
Corrections Committee members that prospect hunt in prisons are often times not recruiting for local indoctrinates, they are doing it to send them to the rooms of AA and NA at a district, area or regional level. They provide the locations and times of the meetings advertized of several AA and NA groups so the convicted criminal can quickly join them to satisfy parole and probation requirements. These local groups that are at the receiving end of these prospects may not even actively search out thieves, rapists, scam artists and murderers to join their groups, other members of AA and NA send them to them so the "nice" group comprised of the grandmother with a drinking problem looking for help and college student who wants to quit drinking because it is hurting their grades can help them. This is normally called diversity.....................

This totally get to me
This is what drives me crazy about trying to discuss this fact with 12 steppers. Somehow they still will say AA is just a microcosm to society, when they know full well that they are dumping criminals of all levels straight into local meetings that have no clue about the persons past. I dont know why they refuse to admit the obvious about the safety issues this causes for the minors and college student that they are also prospecting, and telling to go to the same meetings. It really shows that there is a screw loose with many of these people.
We have Police Chief Mark Marker in Holly Hill Florida, that discounts all the concerns that have been vocalized at City Hall, in the newspapers, and on the web by citizens that have been harmed by these 12 step meetings in our parks. It also goes against zoning ordinances to do business in parks, but the City Of Holly Hill, Florida in Volusia County just look the other way.
It is the top story of discussion now at www.nadaytona.org
