Edie Falco, http://www.parade.com/celebrity/2009/05/edie-falco-finds-ways-to-be-grat...
Jane Lynch ...http://www.oprah.com/spirit/Glees-Jane-Lynch-on-When-Its-Not-About-You
and Anthony Hopkins http://www.anthonyhopkinsmovies.com/personal/how-anthony-hopkins-quit-dr... just to name a few have all been interviewed over the years and spoke openly about being in Alcoholics Anonymous. They make it sound safe and great.
My question is, when was the last time they attended a meeting. Are they aware how unsafe it has become. What happened with Sandra Bullocks story? Her ex was a guy in AA and he fucked her over and cheated on her too. Was she in AL ANon?
I could find links to verify the magazine articles where Jane and Edie break their anonymity and talk about AA like going to the Gym. Edie Falco was interviewed in a magazine and Jane Lynch was talking to Oprah. I have and I posted them on my blogs www.stop13stepinaa.wordpress.com
Perhaps they too are unaware that Judges are sending 3rd level sex offenders and violent criminals to AA unknown to citizens and to current AA members.
But when they brag about how AA helped them the average person then gets a different idea about what AA is and what it is not. How aware are they really of the truth. They get their asses kissed everywhere, so in AA they get more ass kissing, but even Sandra Bullock got her heart seriously broken by that AA asshole.
I know Anthony Hopkins is a nice guy. Jane Lynch is a very nice person, but I don't get the free promotion.

Anthony Hopkins is with Clancy:

"The man who helped save Sir Anthony Hopkins battle his booze nightmare has revealed how he came to the star’s rescue."
Clancy Imislund, a former alcoholic who helps the homeless battle their addictions in Los Angeles, has spoken of how he came to the Oscar-winning actor’s aid when he was still coming to terms with life without alcohol after quitting the bottle in the mid-seventies.
Same with Carrie Fisher, at least by the looks of things:

Q: What's the difference between Clancy I. and Darth Vader?
A: One uses dark, occult forces to seize power, bend the galaxy to his will, and rule an empire; the other is a character in Star Wars.

Clancy
I heard him speak at an AA roundup in 1976 in Hawaii. He gave me the creeps and I walked outside and looked at the ocean on the north shore of oahu. WHen I moved to LA years later I couldn't believe what a cult following he had. I worked at Fox for a few years and there were meetings in the basement at noon MWF. I met a woman there who was 13 stepped by him. She said there were a long stream of them Where are they now.

Clancy vs Darth Vader
Darth Vader is a movie character. Clancy has made up a cult and appointed himself as leader. I hope he steps down soon.

IF we could get some woman
IF we could get some woman who were 13 stepped by Clancy it would be really great. I knew one but lost contact with her. I know another woman currently who had a sponsor who was Clancy's mistress. SHe made her do errands for free as a newcomer and treated her like a slave. He is disgusting. Its a game. He uses the Mission downtown to get "look at me what I am doing is so great Card"

When I was at a Clancy rally,
When I was at a Clancy rally, it felt, in certain ways, what I imagine it must have felt like to be at the Nuremberg rallies in 1930s Germany. Not that he was spewing militant genocide or anything to that effect, but the unquestioning adulation of the starry-eyed masses was amazing and frightening. The whole build-up was a production in itself (i.e., the reading of the preamble, steps, long-form traditions, and promises all before Clancy took the stage to roaring applause complete with huge AA triangle banners). The way he could bring much of the audience to tears was shocking and scary. It was almost as if people would have offered him their first-born if he had asked. I left thinking "now THAT is the true power (and danger) of AA!"

Don't forget...
Andrew Zimmern and Craig Ferguson. If you know what you are looking for, it's obvious in their shows.
Also, on a side note, one of our local news stations is just lousy with AA members. At least 3 on air anchors have been arrested for alcohol related incidents in the last few years and now they all go to cult meetings together and then report the news together. They even gave 2 of them on-air time, during the evening news, to "share" about their "shortcomings" and about how they now are seeking help in a "fellowship" of people with similar issues. Now every few weeks there is some story about a member of the community who turned his or her life around with the help of a 12 step group.
We also have an owner of a business, who happens to be my former sponsor, who runs his twisted version of public service announcements that promote AA, local treatment centers, and his construction business all at the same time on the same news station as the 3 anchors above. Sad.
Is this saturation of an area normal or am I just surrounded by these whack-jobs?

That scenario is in every AA group, they're called....
Special Pleaders - they stay in the group and promote it for their own growth while benefiting from it financially and getting others to help them while being praised for the great work they are doing. The scenario you described usually goes like this:
The radio anchors met the construction owner while at AA. The construction owner most likely has a large amount of Sponcees' with a large turn over. The construction owner most likely "suggested" by himself or through other members to these radio anchors that Public Service Announcements (for Free) be made. The construction owner most likely gets his trade workers from the roomz and can have complete control over them (Construction usually has a high Alcoholism rate). At the same time he is most likely not getting a substantially lowered cost for air time, but in passing they may be mentioning him often, or sending people to the roomz where he recruits them as low cost labor.
To increase his profit, the construction owner may be doing work or maintenance on the club houses, rehabs or sober homes in the area. The more Alcoholics that end up in the roomz, the larger his business. I have been studying the Eco-system of AA groups for a few years now, and they all have these links (some may be slightly different) with rehabs, soberhomes, construction, janitorial services and yard work. Not everyone in the roomz does this, just a few and they are usually highly respected because they miraculously "help" the people get into rehab, move into sober living and get low paid menial jobs.
The other thing that I have noticed is that Bankruptcy lawyers, Divorce lawyers, Real Estate professionals and used car salesmen are often one degree of separation form the group and help to liquidate the assets of the Alcoholics they help to hit bottom, either with the help of AA, Al-Anon or CODA.

Not even close...
I live in a somewhat small midwest community (50,000 in my city) in the Chicago area. I cannot get away from these crazy bastards. They are on TV, radio, and newspapers. I work for a small company and the accountant is a 25+ yr. Al Anon member, and batshit crazy. One of my wife's co-workers is a dedicated AA member. At least once a week I see one of these nut-jobs while shopping; many local shops employ these people and allow them to spout AA nonsense to customers. Many of our local churches have pastors that are 12 step cult members. Like JR said, there are more than a few used car lots owned by AA members, a prominent personal injury lawyer is an AA cultist, as well as a large number of real estate people are AA members. Many local doctors and nurses are AA true believers. There also seem to be a large number of teachers in the rooms as well (which really makes us consider homeschooling for our kids!). An internet search of my city's name and words like "recovery" or "addiction treatment" will yield anywhere from 50 to 140 results. That just seems ridiculous. Well, I did not mean to get off on a rant there, so I digress...
