AAWS Highlights

Interesting read that made me raise my eyebrows. http://www.msca09aa.org/documents/Reports/2013-03-15%20AAWS%20Highlights... AAWS met with Gil Kerlikowske, Director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy (the “Drug Czar”). Mr. Kerlikowske sat in on AA's Board Meeting in March, 2013. The visit "offered an opportunity for exchanging information and exploring ways to cooperate. ...Director Kerlikowske expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to meet with the board and looks forward to ongoing interaction with Alcoholics Anonymous. The Director also got a tour of AAWS, including the archives. Kerlikowske has a U.S. Government position and was appointed as Director of the ONDCP by President Barack Obama. The Office of National Drug Control Policy coordinates drug-control efforts and funding, and advises the president on drug-control issues. http://www.whitehouse.gov/ondcp http://www.usa.gov/directory/federal/office-of-national-drug-control-pol... I'm not very knowledgeable about the laws and such but too me this appears to be at the least unethical. Is the U.S. Government schmoozing with a religious organization?

The White House said yesterday that it will push for treatment, rather than incarceration, of people arrested for drug-related crimes as it announced the nomination of Seattle Police Chief R. Gil Kerlikowske to oversee the nation's effort to control illegal drugs. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/03/11/AR200903... The article is from 2007 but the indication that they will push "treatment" rather than incarceration and that Kerlikowske visited AAWS last year makes me suspicious.
