In what appears a timely release, "Coldwater" outlines the abusive tactics of "breaking the individual" in teenage "treatment camps," which also often results in deaths that go unreported and blamed on the teenager because they "just couldn't get the program. The US Government Accountability Office (GAO) investigated "Concerns Regarding Abuse and Death in Certain Programs for Troubled Youth" GAO-08-146T, Oct 10, 2007 http://www.gao.gov/products/GAO-08-146T. the bottom line is there are problems and watchdog organizations need to be organized and shut these abusive camps down.
With A&E just recently reviving "Beyond Scared Straight" (See Scared Straight Abuse http://orange-papers.org/forum/node/3220) and Lifetime showing "Teen Trouble" in an attempt to glamorize abusing your teen for fun and profit I find this movie something that should be watched carefully. I also liked the links at (http://coldwaterthemovie.com/?page_id=51) with the caption:
There are dozens of teenage deaths on record in state run and private juvenile rehabilitation facilities since 1980. The actual number of fatalities is unknown. There are currently no federal laws that define or regulate American owned and operated juvenile rehabilitation centers.
In memory to some of the few reported cases that have been recorded-

There is no contact with the outside world and the retired war colonel in charge prides himself on breaking an inmates spirit to correct delinquent behavior. As we learn of the tragic events that led to Brad’s arrival, unforeseen circumstances also threaten to tear the reform facility apart…forcing Brad to confront not only his fellow inmates and the personnel in charge, but finally his own sense of what is right and what is wrong.
