Yup, it just exactly like that. Start presenting facts and they will tell you that you can't possibly know anything about AA, or about being an alcoholic, or you're not a real alcoholic, or never been to a meeting, or never read the literature, or that you're just plain ignorant, or that you're just looking for an excuse to drink, or that you're being over intellectual, or...well, you get the idea.

I always did like Data, and his desire to be human and have human attributes, including frailties, even though he was so superior to humans in many ways. It made for an interesting sub-plot with his never ending quest to understand what it is to be human, giving the writers a way to comment on the human condition. Next Generation definitely kicked ass by being thought provoking, all the ones after were pretty lame, in my opinion, due to lack of depth.
