A quick historical review. This explains the case of Michael Chomentowski, the emergence of Dr. Thomas Szasz as a foil to the outrageous claims of the psychological industry, and the industry's continuing attempt to stifle his work.
It does provide some good background for those of us who choose to question the credibility of the industry and its lack of oversight regarding abuses in the power it claims. We continue to hear abuses of people being charged with DUI or drug possession and years after the sentencing would have been completed still being harmed by the recovery industry.

Excellent post! So spot on.
Excellent post! So spot on. Down with liberal artistry, down with psychology, and down with psychiatry! Pretty much 90% of what your average shrink does on a daily basis I could do myself using Google and an I-pad. And let's not even get into psychology. I wouldn't even need an internet connection to bust out some of that quackery.

When the psychological 'cure' is longer than the actual criminal
That was the big "gotcha!" in Ken Kesey's novel "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest".
The hero took "mental treatment" rather than go to jail, and learned too late that the psychiatric facility could keep him for as long as they wished, including forever.
