Bundoran judge praised for setting minimum price for alcohol
Friday, July 06, 2012
Groups working to curb alcohol abuse have welcomed a ruling by a Donegal judge which sets a minimum price on alcohol in Bundoran, Co Donegal.
Judge Kevin Kilraine laid down the order that no nightclub in the town can charge less than €2.50 for any single measure of spirits or beer.
It follows a price battle between two clubs, in which one of the outlets offered shots for 50 cents.
Action group Alcohol Forum wants the government to introduce legislation on minimum pricing, as recommended by the Joint Health Committee earlier this year.
