Mormons quit church in mass resignation ceremony: A group of about 150 Mormons quit their church in a mass resignation ceremony in Salt Lake City on Saturday in a rare display of defiance ending decades of disagreement for some over issues ranging from polygamy to gay marriage. Participants from Utah, Arizona, Idaho and elsewhere gathered in a public park to sign a "Declaration of Independence from Mormonism." "This feels awesome," said Alison Lucas, from West Jordan, Utah, who took part in the rally amid soaring temperatures. "I don't know if I would have had the courage except in a group."

Fleeing the Mexican Revolution in 1912, 4500 Mormons flee to El Paso, Texas for safety. During this time span the Seiberling Empire which helped to enable the cult of Alcoholics Anonymous and Bill Wilson, was building Stan Hywet Hall (Old English for "Stone Quarry") between 1912 and 1915 by F.A. and Gertrude Seiberling.

In 1912, in response to events of the Mexican Revolution, approximately 4,500 Mormons left their homes in several colonies in northern Chihuahua and Sonora in what has become known as the Mormon Exodus. The refugees took a train first to El Paso (where some remained) and then on to other areas of the country in response to their concern for their personal safety during the Mexican Revolution. Though some returned shortly after (and two of these colonies remain to the present), for the families of many such as George Romney (Mitt’s father), this migration represented the end of a decades-old sojourn in Mexico.

"Tradition 10 - Alcoholics Anonymous has no opinion on outside issues; hence the AA name ought never be drawn into public controversy." Please follow orders from the Interchurch Center if you are an AA member and don't comment.

The park where this thing happened overlooks Salt Lake City.

I hope for the day we are organized enough for something like this in front of the Interchurch AA headquarters or in front of Hazelden.

BTW some people had great posters.

DeConstructor says: "I hope for the day we [OPF] are organized enough ...."

5% of 150 is seven or eight. Sounds like a lunch bunch. Separate checks or does someone get stuck with the "bill"? LOL!

Doubt that Decon was referring to just us folks on the opf when he said "we," Alkie.

It is uncanny how much the comments on the reuters article sound just like the posts by the fab four on this board. I swear the first comment could've been written by Clara.

"If I forget who I am, I am myself. If I remember who I am, I am you."

in the next few days with a lot of inside information on the corporate assets of LDS Inc. More than has ever been published before and I think it will be a eye widening moment for much of society.

Every ounce of hamburger served at McDonalds comes from this organization. Every french fry served at McDonalds comes from this organization. The 5 BILLION dollar mall they just built in SLC could have been spent so every person in subsahara Africa could have had clean drinking water.

They are a cult. The biggest difference between the AA faith and the LDS faith is the mormons do not normally recruit by court order.

I love the internet. Religions are dying all around us. Google shall set you free.

now if every other religion would quit their respective cults we'd live in a better world.
