Scientology or "the other" cult, differentiates itself from Alcoholics Anonymous by being a niche cult. While Alcoholics Anonymous claims to be "free" with all "costs" tacked on the back end in Hazelden based rehab stays, counseling, etc.... Scientology gets those "fees" for joining the cult up front and is open with the cost of cults indoctrination, unlike AA which requires you go out in search for prospects for the cult, take them to meetings, get their family and friends involved in the gateway cult of Al-Anon or CODA, etc....
It would appear that in Scientology that L. Ron Hubbard is the guru of worship while in Alcoholics Anonymous it is Bill Wilson.
I would rate the cult of Scientology just a shade lower as being a cult as destructive as Alcoholics Anonymous since it does not claim to be "free" with "hidden fees" at every corner.
"Tradition 10 - Alcoholics Anonymous has no opinion on outside issues; hence the AA name ought never be drawn into public controversy." Please follow orders from the Interchurch Center if you are an AA member and don't comment.
