12-Step Meetings May Help Teens Beat Alcohol, Drug Abuse. Programs such as Alcoholics Anonymous seem to work as well in teens as in adults, study finds. Teens undergoing treatment for alcohol or drug abuse can benefit from the 12-step program used by groups such as Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and Narcotics Anonymous (NA), researchers say. While these programs are widely available, little research has looked at how effective they are for teens. The new study included 127 teen substance abuse-treatment outpatients (95 males, 32 females, aged 14 to 19) who were assessed when they began treatment and three, six and 12 months later. The findings are published online and in the July print issue of the journal Alcoholism: Clinical & Experimental Research.

DId you even read this article?
First of all it states that only a quarter (to a third) continued to attend AA faith meetings. This says alot when we know these people were strongarmed to be there.
These newcomer trolls have no idea what crap they are stating. In the old days of this movement guys like Izzy, Speedy0134, or MA would have eaten this guy for lunch.
The trolls are getting dumber and lazier everyday.

I read this and followed many
I read this and followed many links. Very very disturbing.
read here Governor Brown signed AB 106 on June 28, 2011, thereby directing DHCS to collaborate with DADP and the Health and Human Services Agency (Agency) to create a transition plan that guides the transfer of the Drug Medi-Cal Treatment Program, and applicable functions related to federal Medicaid requirements, from DADP to DHCS, effective July 1, 2012.2 The legislation requires DHCS to submit the written transition plan to the fiscal and applicable policy committees of the Legislature no later than October 1, 2011, and to provide additional updates to the Legislature during budget subcommittee hearings after that date, as necessary.
AB 106 states that the transfer of functions from DADP to DHCS shall occur in an efficient and effective manner, with no unintended interruptions in service delivery. Ultimately, the transfer is intended to:
Improve access to alcohol and drug treatment services, including a focus on recovery and rehabilitation services.
More effectively integrate the financing of services, including the receipt of federal funds.
Improve state accountability and outcomes. Provide focused, high-level leadership for behavioral health services.
AB 106 mandates the departments to convene a series of stakeholder meetings, beginning no later than July 15, 2011, to receive input from clients, family members, providers, counties, and representatives of the Legislature, and requires the departments to use this consultation to inform the creation of the transition plan.
This is just California. You can look up on any state whats going on there. I can see what Gov Brown in up to.
They are funneling Gov funds to treatment which is 98 % religious AA 12 step Bullshit. There is a case here. Thing is....most citizens dont know the law.
Educate. Thanks for a great thread.

not attending any AA cult rituals in the last 22 years. (Unless of course you are lying, like most of the AA evangelists that come here.)

doesn't 22 yrs w/o aa make a dry drunk?
becket-marrrietta would be classifed a dry drunk under the hokey religious cult thinkspeak. becket-marrrietta has been dismissed from aa as a dry drunk that is in denial in a big way.
beckett-marrrietta is actually an angry old man that has been spurned by the "friends" he met in the aa cult and now has nobody to interact with 'cept us.
The old man claims to have a job but he is just continuing the grand tradition of bill w the conman of being a 12 stepper that is unemployable.

Get em while their young..........
Sick prospect hunters of the AA faith will go to any length to invade your families. This is a prime example of mind control and manipulation, the only thing worse than this is the AA Funeral Crashers that will be going to your children's funeral in search of "new" prospects and to brag that they could have helped them should their ineffective "program" of chanting and faith healing been allowed to miraculously "help" them. 12 Step evangelists are the lowest forms of life in the world at the present time.

What this article fails to
What this article fails to point out is that the parents who are involved in the recovery of their teens will (mistakenly) make their kids go. It may be that it's the parental involvement that is more a factor in their recovery than involvement in superstitious faith healing billshit. They sure want these kids to be brainwashed to believe that they are powerless early. What would be more interesting is to see what the long term effects will be when these kids leave the parental home and start drinking again. My bet would be that even the kids whose parents were relatively uninvolved will fare better than those whose parents forced them to go to faith healing meetings where they are told they are powerless over their disease.

I can't think of a WORSE "program" for teens!
Why would ANYONE want to project "12-Steppsism" on to teens (who already have maturity, and accepting responsibility issues!)? It NEGATES their individuality (another issue teens are having difficulty getting their "stability in"), and has them blaming this "disease" on their OWN myopic, immature, and self-centered BEHAVIOR!
Any licensed professional recommending 12 Step groups to teens needs to be DE-licensed! NOW!

Sly Suggestions
Whenever you hear "may help", think "sly suggestions". That is a commonly-used A.A. propaganda trick that Bill Wilson mastered and used in the Big Book a lot. First, just suggest that something might be true, and then assume that it is true.

Cloud The Issue
Whenever you hear someone not discuss the topic, but claim something else, think avoidance. The article did not mention Bill Wilson or the Big Book. So why cloud the issue? Let's discuss the merits of their findings.
The article said "may help". It did not say "will help". It definitely did not say "not help" or did not say "never helps".

Think Veal - AA is searching for young cattle to herd
"Veal is the meat of young cattle (calves), as opposed to meat from older cattle. Though veal can be produced from a calf of either sex and any breed, most veal comes from male calves (bull calves) of dairy cattle breeds. [1]"
Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Veal
We are talking about the sick AA evangelists targeting youth for Spiritual destruction.Any of the sick members of the AA faith that attempt to make martyrs out of the young ones they kill through voodoo medicine should be put in prison for the rest of their lives.

AA just celebrated its 77th year June 10,2012 and it still.....
AA hasn't been able to come up with any stats for 77 years, except for the cult members that parrot "millions of people have been saved", yet they have less than 2 million members now and are late a few years with the latest triennial survey. They go by inflated numbers and since it's an anonymous survey I am sure that the brainwashed fanatics of AA believing they are "helping the fellowship" vote multiple times and inflate the number of people at the meeting. It's a cult based on lies........

Statistically relevant or statistically significant?
Take your pick. The number of members are sufficient to conduct a survey. Sorry if you don't like the results or the frequency. No need to count noses, just count the number of meetings morning, afternoon, and evening every day of the week.

Steppers are an insidious
Steppers are an insidious group of manipulators. Their nefarious prospect hunting knows no limits. They will assume any guise to push and ensnare the ignorant. Let's not overlook the slimy tactics employed by alanon and the alateen. Wilsonism has adapted to infiltrate families in all ways possible. The resident aa apologists of this forum have nothing better to offer than the usual tactics of attack , deflect, and derail. Their feverish minds believe that these tactics are seamless and unseen. If this is the best they can offer, do you want what they have?
Go ahead, enjoy yourselves - it's getting late, much later than you think.

I don't think you can deflect
I don't think you can deflect and derail on this site. All I have to do is respond to someone's question and I get accused of derailing a thread. I don't have to even BE here to derail a thread. All someone has to do is mention this AA and there are twenty posts, so blame something other than AA or apologists. People CHOOSE who they post to, even Ben when he misses Marietta so much that he just has to take a swipe. He admitted that the first week I was here.
Back to the kids, any clue as to how well they do otherwise?
