Can someone who hasn't been to an AA meeting for 20 years even know what goes on at an Alocholics Anonymous ritual ceremony today?

I haven't been to a meeting in 20 years, NoAAUK. Even back then I heard "don't get into a new relationship within the first year", but I had also read the Big Book and I knew damn well that was not part of the program.

As it went, I did not start up any new relationship until year nine. It wasn't because of anything anyone said or didn't say to me. It's because I wasn't interested.

I hope that after 20 years abstinence from AA that I am fully detached.
I will say this though; AA was different in the 80's, PG has infected the world with much of the cultie crap.

When I went to AA in the 70s we never spoke about drugs because so many people were using them. It was completely normal for steppers to smoke pot or take a pill or two

Alcoholics Anonymous at his best, done the way Bill and Bob did it. The reason Bill and Bob wrote the big book was because they were experiencing a 78% to 93% success over the 4 years of AA's existenece. Compare 78%-93% with the accepted 1-3% success rate of today's shadow of AA's former self, and one would have to ask ones self "What happened? Why is the success rate much lower than it was in 1939? AA works if you do it the big book way.AA's message has been extremely diluted.

The program as set out in the first 164 pages is flawed. Powerlessness? Disease? Spiritual madly? Sin? An interventionist God is required to not only remove the desire to drink, but also remove character flaws. Placebo treatment at best. Dangerous at worst.
