What Are Your Religious Beliefs?

I used to believe in God, but, after 18 years of groveling on my knees, I came to the conclusion that God does not exist. What are your religious beliefs, and how have they been effected by AA?

"Hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid."

Religion is not a good thing, ever since man invented it.

The most religious people in the United States on Sept 11, 2001 were the 19 hijackers who stole planes and rammed them into buildings.

becket's picture

They may have been the most fanatic, but I doubt they were the "most religious".

When actions and verbs meet religion very bad things happen.

"WE ARE WHERE LOVE DWELLS"

ZeDVille is wrong about this.

ZeDville is NEVER wrong.

"Hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid."

That sounds like idolatry, Pennywise. I disagree with you on ZeDville never being wrong. If he says we are where love lives he's on ecstasy or smack or some other substance that dulls or mollifies his perceptions.

that you can choose any God you please... including a tree?

If that ain't idolatry I don't know what is.

AA is a religious cult dressed up to look like a treatment for alcoholism.

Yes, but the point is, Pennywise is an avowed atheist.

Pennywise's picture

It is inherently impossible for ZeDville to be wrong. Anything ZeDville says becomes right by virtue of the fact that ZeDville said it.

"Hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid."

You're working an angle. I don't think I'm interested in pursuing it.

Wise choice. I was in a meeting and didn't feel like posting anything of substance. Anyway, within your subjectivist philosophical framework, on what basis can you claim that ZeDville is wrong? If a person believes that we are where love dwells, how can you say he is wrong? Moreover, isn't love just a manifestation of biological chemical processes in the brain? If so, then how could love dwell in any place other than within us? Or were you directing your comment at this board by implying that there is no love on the Orange Papers forum?

pennyW asked, of becket, " ..on what basis can you claim that ZeDville is wrong?

the judge judges all that is judgeable because he is the judge. That is the basis.

Keaton always said, "I don't believe in God, but I'm afraid of him." Well I believe in God, and the only thing that scares me is Keyser Soze.

I am an animal on a dirt claud whirling through space.
When it is lit up I see woman and build shelter.

Sometimes it's hard to decide.

NoNonsense's picture

I believe we all have good and evil within us all. Some may call it the enlightened self vs. the not-so-enlightened self. I believe that most(maybe all) of us (including myself) are somewhere between these two, BUT WE HAVE A CHOICE as to which side to listen to. Therefore, we must do our best to be our best. I agree I have to work on this everyday myself.
