I've been able to put all thinking in regards to Suboxone being "using" out of my mind. It no longer bothers me that I regularly take an opiate "like" medication. I'm glad that I've been able to do this because it really helps my PAWS. I am functional and much more productive. Happier even :D
I know that in terms of moderating opiate use I likely wouldn’t be successful. Besides it being against the law, which nowadays is a deterrent for me, I have never once used this drug with exercising an ability to control my intake. For this reason as well, I'll likely always need to refrain from recreational opiate use. I have decided that if I'm ever in need and able to take pain killers that I will do it without qualms. Another of the hundreds of pet peeves I have about the program is the so called expectation that addicts or even "alcoholics" need to suffer pain in order to maintain their clean time. The decision seems to be made for others and instilled by others into their brains at a time that they themselves are not suffering. Kind of unfair, don’t ya think?"

I've thought a bit about how different I would do things and now that I'm on the Sub I wish that I had tried this route years ago. It had been offered but I was determined to be "clean" by program standards. It's difficult to know how it might have been better for me or not. Since I'm on a higher dose atm and slowly working my way down, I am questioning it again now, :lol: Since the paws were so awful for me all I do is have to remember the times when life didn't seem worth living and the questions get answered right away."

My bit about the PAWS was for me a way to keep it in perspective. The Sub has caused some issues of concern and I was prepared to face them. But for now, comparing the two is night and day. Living like life it was a disaster when in fact I have much to live and be happy for (like you), wasn't living. I needed to make a change and go in a different direction. Now I feel good. Avo, most of us here are not in recovery, recovering or even in NA, AA, SMART, HAMS or any other form of recovery program. We have left it all in our past. I am talking decades ago.
Suboxone wasn't even available when I was banging dope. You either kicked it cold turkey or you went on methadone. I never considered methadone as a viable alternative, just my opinion.
Yes my way was painful (probably beyond anyones belief) but I saw many before me do it and they succeeded.

Avo, you lied about me. Now whether you want to call me Danny, Trisha, Claude or who ever, it still doesn't wash away the fact you lied about me calling your home and threatening your son.
This never happened because if it did, I would not be here, writing on this site. I would be in jail, awaiting trial for a prison sentence.

The rest of the post is interesting, too. How have you "recovered" with your mind, Avo? To me, you've come to see that you cannot recreationally use drugs. You cannot be counted on to "manage" your usage. You have medical intervention and supervision to help you manage that addiction. You no longer seek out illegal ways to get your DOC. These are modified behaviors, and it is great. But how have you "beaten" your addiction? Seems to me that you came to believe differently than you had before.

Gunthar was actually banned from Stinkin Thinkin, Mark couldn't stand him from what I heard. Dude gets high, gets drunk and then comes on here crying about why his life is a mess and how AA screwed it up.
I said it before and I will say it again, many of the people who are members on the recoveringfromrecovery site are active users. They have never had any intention of ever getting sober or clean. So what we have here is a bunch of 2 years olds running around telling us, "NO". No I will notb listen to you, no AA is bad, AA suxs, AA this and that. Read there posts.
I give that site RFR maybe a year and then it will become just like all the rest, burned out drug addicts and drunks, still using irresponsibly and talking shit.

Good for you, Gunther, but my concern about this is that I am working in a shelter this week. If someone came in to "guest lead" one of our meetings when her true motivation was to tell these women how she did "it all by myself" and didn't need AA, only to then discover that she had amedical team behind her, giving her meds to help her through her recovery... I would wonder if she wasn't just a bit dishonest about it. She's still getting her fix. I do not disagree with medical help and intervention, but that part of her story just doesn't add up and is misleading.

I doubt anyone cares how someone gets sober if that is what the person wants, Gunther.

Gosh, no. The reason I asked is that I signed on here and saw that after conducting one of those same meetings in a very similar atmosphere.

Complete abstinence - not hardly. I know many people that avail themselves to what medicine has to offer. I would do it, too. In fact, when my dog was put down, I tthought about going on anti-depressants because it was a horrible loss to me. The BB doesn't discourage anyone from seeking help from other areas. You can read about it on page 133 to see if you come to the same conclusion as I do.

And it isn't about Avo. If someone else was here making the same statements under the same circumstances, I would be asking the same questions.

No one sent Clara in anywhere. I signed on and this is what I found. But I still think my question for Avo is valid. She is very fortunate to have medical care and supervision.

But what about women that don't? What if the fellowship and caring that can be found in AA is all they have available to them? Aside from eliminating the "street" aspect of her addiction, is it really fair or accurate to go into AA meetings and tell people that this is no use for them, that they can use their minds to cure themselves just as she did? What has really been cured, other than coming to see that she can never use those things safely (i.e. recreationally) again?

Believe me, PIE. After this week, I would have asked Avo these same questions. I haven't seen much addiction that has taken people I know to where these women are... It started on Monday with the 24 Hour a Day reading.
