Man Kills 87 year old Alcoholics Anonymous Female Sponsor
Pierre Parent heads for a Belleville Police cruiser Tuesday, July 3, 2012 outside the Ontario Superior Court of Justice in Belleville, Ont. He pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the 2010 death of Belleville's Catharine Oliver, 87, his Alcoholics Anonymous sponsor, benefactor and former landlord. Justice Richard Byers sentenced Parent to 11 years in prison, but with credit for pretrial custody he'll spend nine years and two months behind bars.

The Belleville residents met at an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting in the spring of 2009. They became friends and Oliver agreed to sponsor Parent, whom the court heard was also addicted to crack cocaine.
She gave him moral support, let him live with her briefly and gave him about $30,000.
Then he killed her, left her body on her livingroom floor — and stole from her again. And again. And again."

The $30,000 gotten from his female 87 year old sponsor, Catharine Oliver would probably never have been reported otherwise. This shows a very bad trend of elderly senior citizens going to what they are told is the "safe" rooms of Alcoholics Anonymous to fellowship and companionship. Who is to blame? Is it the people telling you that AA is safer than McDonald's or the grocery store?
This is indeed a tragic fate of an Alcoholics Anonymous member in Ontario Canada Areas 83, 84, 85, 86 of the infiltration of Alcoholics World Services at the Interchurch Center http://www.aatoronto.org/webapp/app/webroot/index.php . The fact that she was practicing the opposite sex sponsorship started by the Pacific Group in California run by Clancy I, which also ended up in the rampant sexual abuse of Midtown, is indeed troubling.

I really don't get it. 11 years for manslaughter and he even went back several times to steal from her, showing no remorse until he was caught. And Patricial Spottedcrow got 30 years for a $30 bag of pot (although the sentence has been shortened to 12 years).
As far as AA goes, how many people have to die from the hands of a peer met through the program before the problem is scrutinized? Either AA has to make changes or another authoritative presence needs to step up and help help ensure safety.

Who is to blame for WHAT?? For the woman going to AA? For her sponsorship of this creep? Look, she was 87. Eighty-seven does not equal stupid, nor does it suddenly mean you are without the right to choose what you do with life. There's no blame here. Only the perpetrator is responsible.
Anti AA people generally support the theory that any drunk can quit any time s/he wants to. They say it's just a matter of wanting to. Most everything in life is a matter of choice unless you get busted for a crime serious enough to lose your freedom for a time. This woman was free to choose her companions. Maybe she didn't choose wisely. That was not her fault. It was no one's fault. It is not a crime of AA. It was a crime committed by an opportunistic crackhead and alkie. You people are always mocking the "cunning, baffling and powerful" line from the Big Book. Well, this son of a bitch was just that.
Criminals need to get out of meetings. They should be dumped in jail to serve their time. More prisons means more jobs. Even more than that, parents need to quit raising criminals. They need to quit teaching them how to work the system, how to steal to eat because the welfare checks won't cover enough food for all the people on the dole in one household. Parents need to start teaching their kids manners and morals and decency from day one. It's a societal problem, not just one that exists in 12-step meetings. There's so much more to it than what you're presenting here. This is a cultural problem that has run so deep for so long in this country that it will take many generations to evolve out of it. But the opportunity to effect change is here now. People can start now. It has to start somewhere.

McDonalds vs. AA
At McDonalds I don’t get immersed into the other customer’s lives and become their life coach. I also don’t invite people that I meet there into my home so we can discuss their character defects. At McDonalds I never do a sexual inventory. When I go to McDonalds I fully expect to be served an unhealthy meal that will damage my body, I also expect it to be engineered to create craving. McDonalds and AA are a very weak comparison.

In the argument that AA is safer than McDonalds it needs to be mentioned that both activities are not equal in dynamics. AA is a society in which people get personally involved in each others lives. McDonalds is a fast food restaurant. A better comparison would be if AA is safer than therapy with a trained psychologist because the activities could be considered the same venue.

When it does, I will stop going and picket them. It is these practices in AA that caused the death and swindling of an 87 year old woman at the hands of Pierre Parent in Ontario Canada.

AA sponsorship; in harms way
There is no doubt that AA puts sponsor and sponsee in harms way. Sure it can happen anywhere but not at the level it happens at when you are immersed in someone else’s life. When you help someone you can become responsible for the outcome of your advice. Let’s say you work with a sponsee who is skeptical of AA's dogma but willing to try. At the end of the relationship the sponsee can feel the sponsor has betrayed them and lash out, much the same way the AA believers on this blog lash out at the non-believers. I think originally the steps were designed to help the afflicted find religion, clear away the past damage, create fellowship, and then help them live a moral life. In time AA evolved, the steps changed, the sayings and beliefs changed, and eventually sponsorship became life coaching with practically nothing to do with the steps. Sponsorship is a dangerous relationship for all involved. AA members are not qualified to give advice. Imagine being in AA and selecting an AA true believer from this site as a sponsor; Imagine now that you disagree with them. What would you expect at this point, would they suggest that you “go ahead and drink” instead of offering alternatives to help you deal with your problem. AA helps those who believe and belong, those who don’t, well they are discarded without any referral to other possibilities.
AA members are selfish, closed minded individuals who mascerade as people with answers. AA is not science. AA is not a cure. AA is not effective. What a shame that this untrained and unqualified 87 year old sponsor allowed this criminal into her home.

experience, strength, and hope with each other that they may solve their
common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism. The only
requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking.
Even their credo is a statement of failure and a lie.

That's an "outside issue" they weren't chanting to Ronald McDonald at the time of these incidents. This is the same rationale that the cult of Alcoholics Anonymous uses to deflect the problems with their rituals.
So have you opened up a site to expose these problems? Do you write for them or post about them? Time to get out an spread the word jonnijoy, it's your patriotic duty on this 4th of July 2012.
