Mug-Shot Industry Will Dig Up Your Past, Charge You
This is the first time I have heard of the "Alcoholics Anonymous get your mugshot off the web for free card", but it is a very profitable business. I wonder if Matthew Creed is a member of Alcoholics Anonymous in Kansas?

Absolutely not. If a person
Absolutely not. If a person is in treatment, that is a HIPPA violation. As for sponsors in AA, NA or any other kind of A, if someone wants to leave the fellowship, you are to wish them well and LET THEM GO. I am really pissed off at this guy and his smug attempt to do a "public service." Where was his plead to the judge to sentence him appropriately for his DUI? Some may laud him to being "creative" (actually ripping of Florida), but what he is doing is a shake down and it is wrong. You don't even have to have been doing something to be arrested in this country. You can be held for 24 hours without any charge at all, but with this guy, you don't even have to be convicted of anything.

That's your primary fear?
That's your primary fear? What about extortion? This guy is going to get himself killed by presuming to be judge, jury and cashier. Evidently he's not good for anything except siphoning money off people who are already down. Sound a little like your nemesis Bill Wilson?
Would you say he's doing anything illegal here? These are public records, but the demand for money is a shakedown. Is he within his legal rights to do this? I'm not even talking ethical or moral here; that obviously is not part of his language.

The mugshots are public
The mugshots are public record. But posting them and then offering to remove those posts for money might be illegal. Extortion does not always require a threat to commit an illegal act. So even though it is legal to post the pictures, it still might be illegal to solicit money in exchange for taking them down or to threaten to notify an arrestee's neigbors unless he pays your fee.

As an aside, do you think it would be OK for sponsors to threaten to post such mugshots if the sponsee drops out of AA?

The yobs from the EU are conspicuously silent. Why? Because of the Data Protection Directive, soon to be Data Protection Regulation. Everyone, that means everyone is entitled to privacy and human rights.
If the US of A implement similar legislation or enter in the EU framework, 99.99% of all Orange Papers Forum blog and forum postings would not be allowed.
However, there have been exceptions to the rule:

If they have a criminal record in there past, you can "blitz" them and make sure they don't get that job instead of you! And it's FREE, just like if you go to Alcoholics Anonymous and want your picture taken down that we will append with the fact you are going to AA. If you aren't mandated and don't have a court card to sign, we will also provide one for you for $5 to prove you have been to AA!

Yelp Extortion: Sacramento Man Tries To Blackmail ....
Yelp Extortion: Sacramento Man Tries To Blackmail Restaurant With Bad Review: It's common knowledge that Yelp is often the vehicle for lengthy rants by angry restaurant patrons, but for extortion? That was the case earlier this month in Sacramento, when a Yelp user threatened to post a damaging review of Red Rabbit Kitchen and Bar and report it to health authorities unless the owner, Sonny Mayugba, agreed to pay him $100. The man alleged that he came down with a case of food poisoning after dining at the restaurant. Mayugba told The Sacramento Bee that although there was no way to substantiate the man's claim, he had initially offered the user a $60 gift card to a restaurant of his choice, at which point the man demanded the greater amount. Mayugba ultimately did not pay up, and it remains unclear if a negative review was ever posted. "I was so upset," Mayugba told the Bee. "He was taking something that was inherently good to use it as a tool to extort a restaurant. It was just so wrong." According to the paper, other restaurants even have a name for the practice: "Yelp extortion."
