Do you have an obsession with Alcoholics Anonymous? Has your life become unmanagable because of Alcoholics Anonymous?

Does Alcoholics Anonymous get in the way of your job because of AA service?
Does Alcoholics Anonymous get in the way of making it to school because of AA service?
Does Alcoholics Anonymous get in the way of meeting family and social obligations because of meetings?
Does Alcoholics Anonymous get in the way of relationships because they aren't in "Recovery"?
Does Alcoholics Anonymous get in the way of marriage because you are at meetings?
Does Alcoholics Anonymous get in the way of one’s overall happiness with "normies?"
Does Alcoholics Anonymous touch every part of your life?
Does Alcoholics Anonymous remind you of a cult?

If you answered "Yes" to one or more of these questions, you do have a problem with Alcoholics Anonymous. I just want you to know that you are not alone.......

Do you think that main stream society does not have your advantage?
Do you enjoy AA related business opportunity?
Do you feel superior as you life coach others?
Do you think the government of The United States of America should adopt the steps and traditions?
Do you feel good when you secretly see other members in public?
Do you only use AA doctors and lawyers?
Is going to meetings or visiting other AA's the limit of your social life?
Do non-AA members understand you?
Is AA ever wrong?

Do you think that main stream society does not have your advantage?> Somettimes yes, sometimes no.
Do you enjoy AA related business opportunity?> What does this mean? I don't think there are such things.
Do you feel superior as you life coach others?> Not superior. Blessed and happy to do it.
Do you think the government of The United States of America should adopt the steps and traditions?> No sure but I question much of what our government does...
Do you feel good when you secretly see other members in public?> I don't SECRETY see other members in public. What does this mean, Dis? I see friends that I address by name and acknowlege.
Do you only use AA doctors and lawyers?> I procured the services of my attorney before he became my sponsor. I don't use AA membership as a preresquisite any more than I do my church or tha my neighbor may be a doctor or lawyer.
Is going to meetings or visiting other AA's the limit of your social life?> Not hardly and never was, although I did discover that MB AA was very social. We often took people out on our boats, had parties, and people could bring their family and other non-AA people were included.
Do non-AA members understand you?> Some do.
Is AA ever wrong?> Occasionally.

When God speaks to you to give you your daily work orders or work miracles for you or whatever and you feel blessed, does he have an American Accent or a Jewish Accent or what?

Are all you steppers equally valuable to God or are those with more TIME more valuable to God?

Stepper boat parties........the mind boggles LOL Hope you have life belts for those who want to jump overboard

You have a terminal obsession, dude.

“The essence of the independent mind lies not in what it thinks, but in how it thinks.”
― Christopher Hitchens, Letters to a Young Contrarian

Have you or has someone you know been a victim of the programming of the Church of Alcoholics Anonymous? Have you or has someone you know tried for years to leave the Church of Alcohoics Anonymous? Have you or has someone you know been a long standing member, chaired meetings, started new meetings, served as a GSR and treasurer over a period of many years - yet, once finally free from the grips of the cult and independent again NEVER HEARS A WORD FROM ANYONE AGAIN? NOT A PHONE CALL.....NOT A CHRISTMAS CARD.....NOT A CHECK IN ONCE EVERY SIX MONTHS JUST TO SAY "HI" AND SEE IF YOU'RE STILL ALIVE, HAPPY, SAD, SOBER, OR WHATEVER???

What other church or group in the entire world completely denies the very existence of a human being once they make that step for the door...and never look back? Even when one lets people know they are leaving in "good graces", "on good terms", "no regrets" or just finished with the program......NOT A WORD.....NEVER A CALL....AS THOUGH THEY NEVER EXISTED. AS THOUGH THEY NEVER HELPED ANYONE.
AS THOUGH THEY DIDN'T SIT IN THOSE ROOMS FOR YEARS PUTTING A DOLLAR IN THE BASKET, READING FROM THE BIG BOOK, SHARING AND HELPING OTHERS.

WHAT OTHER GROUP IN THE WHOLE WORLD TREATS HUMAN BEINGS THAT WAY?

Anthro

Clara's picture

Gosh, how funny. Youwant to bitch that you spent all of that time in AA, doing all sorts of stuff, but you made the choice to leave and someone else is wrong for not sending you a Christmas card or reached out to you? Do you send THEM cards or call for lunch? Why is it always up to the AA to call you? Some would consider that yet prospecting but you think it is breach of courtesy. Make up your mind. If you feel "free of the grip..." why on earth would you WANT or CARE to hear from them?

Gosh, whiner...

New members who fall to the sneaky prospect hunters of Alcoholics Anonymous who infiltrate your family and friends as quickly as they can. The do it with that evil Jim Jones, here's a glass of koolaid smile. Don't be fooled by the prospect hunters of the Church of Alcoholics Anonymous, they will have you taking holy communion with Bill Wilson with stale cookies and coffee in no time.

I almost started to respond to you about this, Clara. I almost tried to, once again, make you try to understand what happens when you renounce the religion or even simply decide to move on because it's time to move on. But, y'know what? It's not worth it because you have chosen not to understand. You have chosen to limit your openmindness to the the teachings of AA. You don't care.

"If I forget who I am, I am myself. If I remember who I am, I am you."

Anthro says: "WHAT OTHER GROUP IN THE WHOLE WORLD TREATS HUMAN BEINGS THAT WAY?" What other human being in the whole world treats groups that way?

Anthro says: "... once they make that step for the door...and never look back?" Their choice and their decision to move on. Cut the cord or apron strings. If the person never looks back, then why the expectation for the group to do anything. Maybe "lure" or "hunt" or "pursue" again like someone says. LOL!

Know a few human beings who pop back into rooms once a year, pick up a coin, and disappear like the wind until next year. Now that sounds like a real good recovery plan. May have to check it out.

Don't forget, the door is always open.

It might have been good if you had, dorak. You've indicated that it was the only clean time you ever had. Surely that must have had some value to you.

If you think you might have an obsession with proving AA is always right, you probably belong to the cult of Alcoholics Anonymous.

Alcoholics Anonymous, trying to out do the cult of Scientology.

being a cult member didn't make my clean time any fun, I turned into a judgmental asshole

I know what you mean Dorak. Now that I'm no longer an AA member, I'm no longer a judgemental asshole. I'm just a judgemental bitch. :)

But in all seriousness, I do understand what you mean. I found myself being judgemental about the weirdest crap in AA. I was absolutely one of those who thought "my sobriety is better than your sobriety" pains in the ass. Then one day I saw my friends judgeing everyone around us (and me) in the same way. And I realized what a load of steaming horseshit I had opted into. It truly made me sick to my stomach.

"If I forget who I am, I am myself. If I remember who I am, I am you."

It was a priority of my network that sobriety be a fun one. Maybe that is where the "glum lot" stems from, but to have it any other way was conceding that happiness for me was in a bottle, and that didn't have to be true.

grave of dead of a dead doctor in Akron Ohio that would not be able to practice medicine if he were alive? Do you hold these ghoulish processions at 7:30 am Sunday Morning?

Oh for crying out loud with the "fun sobriety" bit again. Like sobriety is a summer holiday to Fire Island.

"People in Scientology say that all of the time. That's what cults do to the brainwashed masses they attract."

Maybe it's true for them.

Now, you're stating here that cults attract masses of people who are ALREADY brainwashed. So it appears AA is no threat to anyone.

Like Orange said...FREEDOM!!! Maybe that was Mel G.

“The more I traveled the more I realized that fear makes strangers of people who should be friends.”
Shirley MacLaine

Yeah me too ....at times. I left alot of times. Once I formally announced on the day of a big AA wedding that I was divorcing the cult that day.....

sometimes I left with a bang....other times I just disappeared...usually I just faded into the backround and quit going. The $64,000.00 question is why someone goes back again and again over a 28 year period while practicing other disciplines, alternative programs, philosophies and meditations? What is it that makes someone go back into those doors ....if to get sober again or just to drop in for the annual Thanksgiving feast or for a potluck? What about just peeking in to see any old familiar faces? Why?

Why do we go to holiday meals or celebrations among family members we don't like anymore...or among relatives who dislike our lifestyle or disagree with our political perspective?

It's called "dysfunction junction".....and we go back for one more hit...like the old junkie taking one more shot of it....the drunk "JUST ONE MORE" we promise to ourselves....and then one day...we really have quit for good...and its not just days or weeks, but months and years. And we are free from the addiction and we never go back.

Same with AA......at some point...we walk in that door one more time....order a coffee...look around at those miserable old faces still taking up the same chairs.....and we realize thats it. Its gone. Done. Cooked and never coming back. And we hit the door for good.

Omigosh, you had to make it about you. Use someone else's big event to make your "big announcement." Why didn't you just leave?
