How'd I do it?

Well, it's officially been a little over a year since I last set foot in a meeting. I am coerced by my governing body to go, and according to my log sheet I am at a meeting now. I have no issues with this white lie I tell because I am, ironically, happier than I've ever been in life, sober, and productive and working. All the while without the aa cult telling me I was a dry drunk or about to relapse. over 100 drug screens later, I remain drug free and without any desire to return to my addiction. I consider myself a person, not an addict. I am a former addict. All aa did was show me the way I DIDN'T want to do it. I didn't want to go to endless, redundant meetings. I didn't want to hear the Gawd talk and how their higher power let em slip but it's okay cause they keep coming back. I didn't want to hear the same drunkalogs and pity stories. I didn't want to see the same losers stuck in the rut of aa with no purpose or direction, only a sick need to associate with other brainwashed inmates. I am so glad I walked out May 28th, 2011 forever. I know I will stay sober, regardless of drug tests. I want to be sober, it's a lot easier and profitable and my family is the most important thing in my life, not drugs. Once I figured that simple concept out, it was a piece of cake. I am done with aa, and drugs, forever.

If I'm reading this correctly, some here are suggesting that people who have decided to distance themselves from AA are "free". Can those people explain, then, their immersion in negatively campaigning against AA? Wouldn't their participation in repeated sneerings and parodies of AA indicate to that they are not completely free of AA?

Why did so many veterans return from so many wars and refuse to talk about their experiences?

Or the Peoples Temple cult, Heavens Gate, etc..... I am afraid I don't understand your question becket. Are you trying to say that people who escape from cults shouldn't try to warn people of their dangers?

Heavens Gate, don't leave until the miracle happens.

Repeated sneerings are at least a bit above spending all of one's waking hours on a forum trying to belittle other people. Just saying.

Trisha K.'s picture

You really want to go on about belittling people on a web site?

Any time I ask you, JR Harris, about a detail concerning your experience in AA you respond with a post about the evil cult of the Walmart parking lot. Talk about deflecting and bullshitting.

Go to newcomers meetings, you may be able to find suitable prospects there.

Page 96 of the cult manual commonly referred to as the "Big Book"

Do not be discouraged if your prospect does not respond at once. Search out another alcoholic and try again. You are sure to find someone desperate enough to accept with eagerness what you offer. We find it a waste of time to keep chasing a man who cannot or will not work with you. If you leave such a person alone, he may soon become convinced that he cannot recover by himself. To spend too much time on any one situation is to deny some other alcoholic an opportunity to live and be happy. One of our Fellowship failed entirely with his first half dozen prospects. He often says that if he had continued to work on them, he might have deprived many others, who have since recovered, of their chance.

Just saying what? Come on, out with it. Do you think I'm spending every waking hour here? Do you realize I work at home and can occasionally check in? Check the intervals between posts. It usually takes me one minute to fire something off unless the topic has content worth real discussion.

I don't try to belittle others. They belittle themselves with their own steel trap minds. Don't try to lay that one at my feet, Persephone.

Yes, of course. You're just an observer. Who spends all of her waking hours enjoying the show? Is that it? Uh huh.

"Enjoying the show"?! You've got to be kidding.

Persephone In Exile's picture

So you're here to make yourself miserable then, Becket? Nice....

becket's picture

How's that, Persephone? "Repeated" means recurrent, recurring, frequent, persistent, continual, incessant, constant; regular, periodic, numerous, many, very many. I for one am not here every waking hour. I get stuff done. I'm productive. I have a life. It takes no time at all to call someone out on his or her exaggeration and red herring distribution. I check in throughout the days and I enjoy weighing in on substantive topics. Unfortunately, they are few and far between on this forum.

AA is a cult I have to deprogram from. I spent 16 years in aa listening to crap so now I have to spend 16 years on OP vomiting. 16=even.

becket's picture

You don't have to spend any time here. Just move it along. You can "deprogram" yourself. (That term always makes me laugh. It's so drama-infused.)

Well Trisha, I've decided to take you up on your offer to get the police involved because I am taking it that seriously. Internet investigation has shown that you are using a proxy IP address on this site. Further investigation has revealed your actual personal IP address however. If you would please just confirm that your IP address is 68.97.248.86, I will forward this to the police and we will let them take this further. Because I am not a lowlife like you I will not post your full home address.

It had to be activate from a land line providing an audit trail. Also the monthly fee had to be paid, and the cell company will have tracking on who paid from what account and law enforcement does not need a warrant to determine who did it since children were involved.

It already is. Fortunately, I printed out the forum before PIE and Avo started deleting their posts, and made my complaints to Orange.

If you've got what you've got, just let the police do their job. This trying to play "gotcha" certainly doesn't portray you as much as a victim as it does a participant. the police certainly didn't tell you to do this. It's an interesting mindset on this board. You people do the very thing to others that you claim is done to you, even if the information is wrong.

aasux says: "... over 100 drug screens later ..." So a rough estimate would be twice a week for a year. Pretty strong incentive to stay on the straight and narrow.

no, actually 3 times a month for over 2 years, and the rest were in rehab. random. it is strong incentive, but testing alone won't keep an addict who is hellbent on getting high sober. I know you can't prove it, but I wouldn't do drugs if I had no tests. Life is that good now, I just couldn't see it through the addiction days.

"no, actually 3 times a month for over 2 years, and the rest were in rehab. random. it is strong incentive, but testing alone won't keep an addict who is hellbent on getting high sober."

Delete the random drug testing for a minute. What, then, would keep an addict who is hellbent on getting high sober? Do you believe will power is stronger or weaker than drug testing?

Maryland crab cakes (lump meat not backfin) are the best, are they not? The non-Marylanders don't know what they are missing. Old Bay is special seasoning, I wonder if it is available outside of MD.

Clara's picture

That they are, and you could get Old Bay outside of Maryland. If not, JO is another good one. For those keeping track of the culinary differences between SC and MD, Mr. Fish not only doesn't serve condiment seasoned sherry with its bisque, they also serve female crabs. That is such a no no on the bay!

You could also check allrecipes.com to see if they have a duplicate recipe if you are into making your own spice blends.

thank you. they were starting to mumble everytime i said i'm $$$$ and I am sober for life. Not an alcoholic, wouldn't call myself that. Alcohol was not my thing. They hated drug talk at aa. so rigid and blindly faithful that I couldn't stand it anymore. a lot of the folks in the roomz were of obvious low intellect, and i think this makes for easy fodder. what really bothered me was to see otherwise intelligent professionals buying the bullshit, or at least pretending to. I couldn't even pretend, I just left. Sorry if my caste comment is offensive, but anyone who's been to meetings will have to agree.

Thanks AAsux!
I am abstinent out of AA for about two years now.

Clara's picture

So why not NA, AAsux? It's interesting that we had any number of professionals in our groups and - gasp - getting sober through AA enabled many to BECOME profressionals. But again, since alcohol wasn't your thing and your were a drug addict, why not go to NA?
