These people are so fucking crazy, they don't know when they're lampooning themselves.

Wow, that is unbelievable man....

What is wrong about praying to a piece of paper?

Well I suppose praying to a piece of paper is no worse than praying to a door knob....

So let me see.... post a link to an Agnostics AA site, then start talking about GOD write it on a pice of paper and pray to it.......... You can't make this stuff up......

I'm reposting this link to highlight an article on the home page. It's my favorite kind of prose: Thoughtful, evenhanded and interesting.

Prayer at meetings: A world view
http://aatorontoagnostics.org/

I heard recently of a sponsor telling a woman to write a list of traits she would want God to have, then pray to that piece of paper. Humans have a history of supplication going back tens of thousands of years. Why, I don't know. Not just memes. I think to some extent it's genetic.

One point I've been meaning to address, no one at AA threatened me with *doom* if I didn't toe the line, and my critical facilities were sufficiently preserved to recognize overstatement for dramatic effect. Per a friend of mine: "It's simple, you do this program or you die." He's excitable and prone to exaggeration and it comes off that way, not like a mafioso threatening to break your legs if you don't pray. That also goes for certain dire statements in the literature. IMO if people take these as literal death threats they have problems besides alcohol.

What is a pice, JR?

I think the person misheard something. It is common to write affirmation lists. I wrote one about the characters I would like a GUY to have.

The thread that came from is "Moderated: Why do people insist AA is not religious?/Efficacy of AA & other treatment programs" and it is pure AA back speak. Come on you can't be that delusional.

Have you told your husband about your obsession with the Orange Papers yet?

What is to read again, JR? I think the guy simply misheard something that many people have done. Those lists are nothing new. I wrote one on the traits I would like to find in a GUY and then prayed about it. I think he just made a mistake. People should be allowed to do that without ridicule.

starts to crumble just a little bit more. Clara you're digging your hole deeper and deeper. Every LIE you give causes you to make up another one. You definitely have a moral malady and chanting Bill Wilson doesn't appear to have helped you at all.

So what does hubby think about your obsession with the Orange Papers?

Because they didn't want to be caught in another LIE.

P.S. I have chanted the non-religious christian blasphemy of the adulterous Bill Wilson and even pretend to be a member to observe the idiocy of the AA faith, but it's only to expose the very dangerous cult of Alcoholics Anonymous. I'm the one that when they ask "is there anyone from out of town" who says "Yes."

Ben, you know that I am one of the lucky non-athiest people on this board. I prayed to God as I do daily. Sometimes even for you.

Completely irrelevant, as usual. You said you wrote down what you wanted in a man and prayed to it - I said you were fucking mad. Why fly off at a tangent?

30 words is a tangent? I didn't pray to it. I prayed to God, just as I do every day. Do you always fly off and become profane at the mention of God?

Remember Christopher Stevens when you vote.

btnben's picture

The original post was someone writing down what they wanted God to be and then praying to the piece of paper. Correct? You decided that you didn't like that so you said the had misheard it and that you did the same thing with a guy. That would mean you wrote down what you wanted and prayed to the piece of paper, yes? No!! You then changed that and you wrote on the paper but prayed to God. Why? Why not just pray?

The mention of God has virtually no effect on me. Stupid, and I really mean stupid, people who continually twist words to suit their meanings tend to make me become profane.

And 30 words cannot be a tangent - a tangent is a straight line. The 30 words you typed, not one of them were on topic.

Yes, I believe that the guy simply misunderstood something that many women I've known have also been advised to do. Praying about something that has been written on a pice of paper (no slams to JR for his typo?) is not the same as praying TO a piece of paper. I am sure that you can see the difference.

And, again, since my posts bother you, feel free to just skip over them.

People can make you behave differently than you wish to? Others can control your behavior? You are that malleable? Whose KoolAid did you drink?

But doesn't it make you feel better that Clara is praying to her higher power for you, Ben?? (What she's praying for is another matter - let's hope the god of her understanding has more understanding than she does or you're doomed, my lad!)

Clara says that she wrote down what she wanted in a man. So did she ask for a serial monogamist who judges his several wives on the basis of their quality of sobriety and installs covert spying equipment on their phones and computers? I think some people here should be careful about what they wish (or pray) for.

Your current happiness doesn't bother me in the least, and I never said that it did. In fact I'm truly happy for you and for the success of your AA marriage. I just sometimes wonder what the ex-wife (wives) would say about all this.

Do you think your husband has bugged your computer and phone too?

And could you explain what you mean by "grattitude [sic] works"? Grattitude [sic] for what, and to whom? And in what way does it "work"?

Remember Christopher Stevens when you vote.

You say: "Gratitude is the net result for what I have. Expressing it passes it forward. "

What on earth is that supposed to mean? Please explain or put it into comprehensible English.

You say: "What can an opinion of a person that threw that marriage way matter, regardless?"

Well, it might matter to her, Clara. Her view on her marriage to your husband is as valid as yours. It might matter to her also that you've been slagging her off to the whole world on this forum and we have only the newest wife's opinion on the matter. Have you told her that you are doing this?

I'm glad that you are sure that your husband isn't bugging your computer or phone. Yet.

HS, why does someone else's happiness bother people so? My husband had one drunk wife. I don't have a problem with putting spyware on the computer. It was done in response to her not telling the truth and he needed proof for a divorce. It wasn't as if she made it easy for him. I agree that it would have been better if she had just been honest when that email had been sent to my husband by mistake, but drunk addicts make the choices they make.
And, yes, HS, I got everything I asked for. Thank you for giving me an opportunity to say that again. Grattitude works."

housework, yard work, etc.. and doing "regular" things that couples do, instead of obsessing on the largest and most referenced blog about the absurdity and LIES of the AA faith? Just so you realize, this blog is actually a small part of the Orange Papers and whatever you say here does not stay here and you're making a fool out of yourself for the whole world to see Susan.

JR, I discovered through 15 years of blogging and boards that there is someone like you one every one of them, someone that think they are going to dominate someone else by suggesting that they "know" something about them, or are somehow much more clever than the rest with a computer. In the cast of blog characters, you are simply someone sitting behind a screen, trying to act like a stalker. If you could do anything you say you could, you would know that we were in Daytona when we said we were. You would have seen us on the cameras you said you had trained on us and more.

You are merely a goof, JR. A sad one. If I choose to not disclose my full name, but a variation of it for safety purposes against strange individuals (which differs from a stranger...), I think that is my business.

Go ahead, enjoy yourselves - it's getting late, much later than you think.

Or maybe he didn't hear anything wrong. I had someone ask me "If you could invent your own God, what would he be like? What would he look like? Figure out what you want God to be like then pray to that." That's not an affirmation list. That's a shopping list. I may be an atheist but even I know God doesn't work that way. Crazy crazy crazy.

When I told my sponsor that I was not powerless over alcohol he said the steps were not intellectual (i don't need to think about them). I moved on to the next step which was leaving AA and opening my mind to plausible solutions.

To represent AA views, one must qualify as AA royalty such as Clancy, Mike Q, or famous evangelists for the faith such as drew 'I kill my patients on national TV' Pinsky or the crew from Intervention. Personally I think Charlie Sheen is much more articulate.

No Clara Marietta Becket, you are one of the little people, forbidden from speaking for AA by tradition, because they do not want to have to claim sound bites from batshit crazy people.

The traditions were not formed to protect the people, the traditions were fabricated to protect the AA faith.
