I managed to buy the first step. I believed at the time of short AA career (I don't belive so now though) that I was powerless over alcohol and my life had become unmanageable.
Step two I thought was the biggest load of horse shit I had ever heard. Came to believe that a power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity? When did I say I was insane? Does the higher power have a Psychiatry degree?
Best thing I ever done was leave AA after a short time and got sober on my own using good old fashioned willpower. AA can stick their higher powers up their arse.
Good for you, Unhinged. Remember, AA doesn't want anyone there that doesn't want to be there, so I would suppose it would follow that YOU ARE IN THE RIGHT PLACE!
Alcohol, to an extent, made my life, to a degree, umanageable. That doesn't make me insane does it? I HAD a problem with alcohol, not with my sanity.
No a degree in Psychiatry doesn't define higher power for me. I do not recognise a higher power except maybe my balls? I was merely suggesting that a Psychiatrist would be best to return a person to sanity.
I am able to drink without partaking in the binges I once did. The binges that made me turn to AA in the first place are over. I had 6 beers on the 7th of April and they were lovely.
6 beers would be a binge for me. My life was unmanageable, but the insanity was returning to the same behavior, time and time again.
But I hear this often. If you still want to drink, just manage it better, then AA wouldn't be a comfortable place to be. It is an abstinence program, after all. Better to go to something else.
One of the traits of "Alcoholism" is the increase need for alcohol to get the same effect. It's obvious she hasn't hit her bottom yet. Six beers is supposed to lead to shots, then litres until you can no longer move and pass out.
If it's abstinence she wants,Al-anon will do the trick without getting a full blown case of steppism. Most likely she was recruited at her first few meetings by a real manipulator, most likely a Sponsorship, Pacific Group, Midtown type.
"Tradition 10 - Alcoholics Anonymous has no opinion on outside issues; hence the AA name ought never be drawn into public controversy." Please follow orders from the Interchurch Center if you are an AA member and don't comment.
I have to agree Clara. Add to that that Women react more strongly to alcohol than men do. I read it recently, something about fat cells. But not sure. Seems reasonable to me though.
I'm not an alcoholic, and don't think I ever was. But I used to drink too much and too often, 6 beers would have gotten my quite toasty.
My record was 12 shots and 12 beers. Not to be mistaken with the 12 and 12 though, lol. Wow that was a woozy night. Was with my husband (soon to be at the time) in Las Vegas and I hit one of those slot machines for a lot of money. Ever hear of someone being cut off in a Vegas casino? That's me right here, lol. I refused to put my shoes on while throwing dice.
about the plenty of problems 6 beers led you too, I can't wait to hear thr war story, 6 beers musta really effected you financially for example especially if you weren't working & have never had a real job. 6 beers for fks sake, any alcoholic worthy of the label, can spill more than that on their boots at a sitting, ohh the depths your 'disease' musta plumeted you too. 6 bloody beers lol lol lol again, piss off ya pretender, come back when ya got a real habit to talk about, 6 bloody beers. ya don't just need to get a real job, ya need ta get a life. 6 bloody beers, probably half strength american beers. 6 bloody beers.
Even with weak American beers, damn. I was up to about 7 or 8 when I was 18 and only weighed 93 lbs, and it just got me good and buzzed. Admittedly, I had to stop a year later for medical reasons, and my tolerance is so shot now that the last time I drank it was 1/3 of a cocktail and I was flat on my ass giggling in a tapas restaurant, but still. There's tolerance and then there's tolerance, I guess. Reminds me of the woman I met at detox who was there and joining xA because she had moved up to 5 vicodin a day, which told her in no uncertain terms that she was in "active addiction" and needed help. After 1 month of being on it. Some people just need to "belong", you know?
Perse, I definitely don't understand that. Like Ben said, 5 vicodin is a light breakfast. Actually, I needed that before I could even have "breakfast". Everyone is different though.
I certainly knew what drunk was, PIE. I was in a hospital once for falling off a balcony and my BAC was extremely high. I didn't routinely drink like that, but, yes, my tolerance changed. 6 of anything would be entirely too much.
So what, these people could outdrink me. They are aloholics and perhaps had a greater capacity for booze from the start. It doesn't change that I am an alcoholic, and I wouldn't go back to drinking even if there was some sort of magical way to do it without harm.
So you can drink alcohol with impunity? What made you ever think you should go to AA?
Alcohol impairs perception; hence, it and and does affect reasonable and rational thinking and behavior (sanity). If you HAD a problem with alcohol then you HAD affected your sanity to some degree.
"There is some evidence to suggest that average human testicle size and weight has been progressively shrinking in recent years among younger cohorts in Western industrialized nations. This has been associated with a declining sperm count. The recent changes suggest some environmental or lifestyle factor(s) such as increasing exposure to endocrine disruptors." ~ "The Internet Journal of Urology". Have you a second choice for your higher power?
I've been sober since January, 1980.

I can drink alcohol with impunity as long as I don't go overboard with quantities and fequency. I went to AA because I believed they could help me stop drinking myself to death. I was a serious binge drinker. Continually falling on and off the wagon. AA seemed like a good idea until I actually went there and discovered it was full of insane people talking bullshit.
No I don't concede alcohol had affected my sanity to some degree. I never behaved like fool when I got loaded. Never made many bad mistakes. You probably wouldn't know I was loaded. I wasn't in anyway a babbling drunk. I believe my sanity was well intact, thank you very much. When I was drinking it was to make me feel normal. When I was drying out I probably felt anxious and depressed but not insane. I think there is a difference. Drinking had more of a horrible physical effect on me.
My testicles are fine thank you very much. Please don't ask me to send you a picture. I don't have a wide angled lense. The very same testicles have managed to produce 2 fine children. At a push, they would have to be my higher power. I don't do second place.
Congratulations on 32 years of sobriety. That is very impressive and I commend you for that.
How many years of drinking did it take for you to lose your sanity? Has your sanity been restored?
Your higher power is "Something smarter and more creative than I; beyond that, still forming an opinion." Does the fact you are still forming an opinion on your higher power prevent you from working the steps? Do you work the steps? Are you an AA'er? If so how long? Have you considered that maybe there isn't a power greater than you?
You now claim to be sane. Have you been sane long? Were you only insane when you drank? What restored you to sanity?
I have heard some people use doorknobs as there higher power. Is that why you have doorknobs in your little picture or do you make doors?
Thank you so much for answering my questions (assuming you do answer them) I like reading your posts although a few times I've had to get out my dictionary to understand what you're saying. You seem very well versed.
Doesn't it feel good to stand on your own two feet and take credit for your accomplishments?
AA teaches you to thank God, your sponsor, or the group for being sober. However they ask you why you relapsed. I was done taking the blame if I couldn't take the credit.
Admit I am powerless? Are you serious? Ya'll are nuts.
I have somehow managed to quit drinking without AA or god performing any friggin miracles.
No desire to drink, no cravings, no thoughts of drinking. Been in bars and around alcohol with not one issue or thought of drinking.
I quit. Made a choice to quit.

Leave it up to the AA faithful. Aren't you missing a prospect hunting trip to a jail or prison or something?
"Tradition 10 - Alcoholics Anonymous has no opinion on outside issues; hence the AA name ought never be drawn into public controversy." Please follow orders from the Interchurch Center if you are an AA member and don't comment.

Do you know anything of billybudd's activities or friendships or relationships beyond the scope of this forum? The answer is no. Your assessment of his so-called defect of character is reprehensible, certainly not out of character for you, causeandeffect.
