This is just a personal opinion, but I am getting severely pissed off with the trolls on here. They are going to kill off this forum if something isn't done about them. Trolls, like any other cancer, are best disposed of quickly.
This forum was great fun and was really starting to grow until the trolls arrived. Clara and Danny are currently ruining this forum. What does everyone else think?

Fine with me, Penny. The vet
Fine with me, Penny. The vet just called and Spike at a whole can of dog food. He hasn't eaten food in three days, and I have been forcing water on him. I was being pushed to put him down. Believe me, this is an answer to a prayer.
Penny, I thanked you for your sincerity earlier. I'm going to leave this conversation because I am getting what I wanted, and just because you don't believe has nothing to do with me. I wanted to be relieved of alcoholism and I wanted my dog to improve. I've gotten positive responses to prayer on both. Thank you for the discussion.

Awesome Ben! I know you'll do
Awesome Ben! I know you'll do a wonderful job. One thing that really impressed me about SMART was the people knew so much about recovery and were so happy to share all that info. They really had their finger on the pulse of all the new research. I've often wished I could start a meeting in my area, but my current work hours won't allow for it. I do have a lot of good job hunting info that I got from a SMART course. I need to dig that back out and see if I can find a job with better hours. If I could only remember where I put it...

I actually got into the bit
I actually got into the bit of civility that had been on offer here. And, Ben, the only number I am concerned with one. There are many disgruntled people on boards about treatment programs and rehabs. I'm just not worried about stats. I notice that SMART's paperwork doesn't offer any. Do you know what they are, beside saying that they have a high rate of success of getting people INTO recovery? That differs much from actual success. I'm interested in knowing. As I've said, I don't particularly like the meetings here in EP, so I was glad to hear of SMART and to look at the material, even though it seems I've been exposed to it via my sponsor.

Rates
Normal spontaneous remission rates for alcohol abuse are 5% per annum. AA, at best, has 5% at the end of 1 year. To maintain the same as "doing nothing" AA must retain EVERYONE who makes it to 1 year. If anyone leaves after 1 year then AA's rate falls to less than the do nothing rate. Wait and I'll find a table that shows the relative success of different methods. I know it's somewhere...lol

How could anyone have anything to do with your emotions or how you respond? You literally shreik on this board simply because someone's opinion differs from yours. I find it funny that someone would ask someone to prove a negative when they themselves can't prove someone did anything at all. All in response to the simple observation in SMART's own literature that they take government funds. There is no argument to it, other than someone wanted to make it into one.

You know Becket the troll
You know Becket the troll talk here reminds me of this other site (now defunct called ST). I was 1 of the original posters over there. A couple of years later a thread came up talking about how dangerous AA was and I didnt agree. I was attacked by everybody even though I gave examples of being present at the absolute sleeziest, hardest, low bottom mtgs in NY. NY out of all places! It didnt matter that I was not pro-Aa and had been in and around AA for over 15 years. My experience meant nothing to Anti denial, Jr, and C&E. The thread was at an impasse and finally Mark and Isle who turned out to be self centered scums threw in a sock puppet to make it all ok. The thread was called No-Words. My name was JCal. I really wonder what these people besides Jrs real motives are. It could be that they got slighted by a group, maybe they shared too much., maybe not pretty and didnt get the attention like the good looking girls get, maybe they stayed too long and people didnt care what they had to say anymore (treated like relics), who knows. Hating on AA like they do has to be for a reason and its pretty easy to see the way these people are that it wasnt about being concerned about others journey through recovery. I always wanted to start a thread asking what really made you hate AA, but I knew people would not be honest especially when their ego was at stake. I have witnessed people not getting attention in AA and becoming very angry with program in some of the groups I have attended but I noticed in all the threads involving leaving of AA nobody says this, its always something else. HMMM!

We have all heard it before.
We have all heard it before. It did not happen in my group story. This very well might be true. This does not mean that it does not happen in other groups. AA actually has become much more dangerous over the years because of the court mandates. Drug Courts have exploded in the last 20 years. We now have Veteran Courts, Family Courts, Mental Health Courts etc. All a spin off from Drug Courts and all mandate AA.
It is a fact that courts mandate killers, rapists, 3rd level sex offenders and very disturbed mentally ill people. This is wrong to encourage /mandate minors to the same meetings. My motive is to protect minors. Courts or parents should not send minors to 12 step meetings period.

Why would drug courts mandate
Why would drug courts mandate AA? It's pretty specific about what it is for... I say send them to SMART. AA doesn't want people there that don't want to be there. Some groups refuse to sign the slips by group conscience, so those people move on to other groups.
