Just for once, can there be a thread free of the tedious diversions of Marietta Davis/Clarietta etc.? Dissent is OK, just no freakin Marietta. Or discussion of Marietta. Or diversionary troll-moves by Marietta. Or discussions of Marietta.
OK, now that that's taken care of, anyone care to talk?

You read my mind
I was thinking about starting something like this earlier. Alternatively, there seems to be a habit forming that, whichever thread gets used a few times, becomes a sort of "thread of the day". They fill up quick and get harder and harder to navigate. I was thinking about starting a thread each day called "The Daily Bitch" followed by the date to make it unique. The aim would be to preserve the relevance of threads created on specific topics. There seems to be a growing amount of off-topic posting, probably because of the increased popularity of the forum - so it's not a bad thing, just something that may need addressing. What do you all think?

I think that sounds great! Some discussions will no doubt spill over, but the general discussion can kind of continue better that way, perhaps.
I've taken to arguing some of this stuff over at TheFix.....if only because you can discuss the xA stuff without it getting so, well, Mariettaish. I just wish we could do that here.

The Admin needs to be more on
The Admin needs to be more on top of the trolls ( IMHO). Clara should no longer even be on the thread.
Marietta was booted it looks like and reincarnated as Clara. So ban Clara. Yes it is a pain for the Admin, but if you want a blog/forum it comes with the territory. I really cannot stand Marietta style, it is incredibly nerve racking, as it is intended to be.
Also I notice the recent comments change with each comment depending on what forum they are talking about. I would think the recent comments should stay in order period. Not all of a sudden go back to comments from 2 days ago. I never really seen this style before, and it is very, very confusing and makes it hard to follow.
But allowing trolls to burn up the comment section creates confusion as well.

"Those We Don't Speak Of" the 2004 Film "The Village"
"The Village is a 2004 American thriller film written and directed by M. Night Shyamalan about an end-of-the-19th-century village whose inhabitants live in fear of the creatures inhabiting the woods beyond it. The movie was shot in a re-creation of a 19th-century village outside Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, following Shyamalan's penchant for staging his films near his hometown. The movie opened to reviews ranging from overall negative to mixed[3][4] and was not as financially successful as some of Shyamalan's earlier movies, although it did gross over three times its budget. Despite this, the film gave composer James Newton Howard his fourth Academy Award nomination for Best Original Score."
"The occupants of a small village live in fear of nameless creatures in the surrounding woods. They have built a barrier of oil lanterns and watch towers that are constantly manned to keep watch for "Those We Don't Speak Of." It is explained that the villagers have a long-standing truce with the monsters; the villagers do not go into their woods, and the creatures do not enter their village. The villagers execute a well-rehearsed alarm, in which they rush home, lock their doors and hide in their cellars. The dead, skinned bodies of small animals start to appear around the village."

The Villiage
I may not be remembering the movie accurately, but didn't it turn out that there were no monsters lurking outside the villiage? If I do remember correctly the only thing beyond the village was a modern society filled with folks going about their lives. No monsters, nothing lying in wait; just life.
It reminds me of the "disease doing push-ups in the parking lot." In reality there's no disease, just a parking lot.

That is true, in "The Village" they controlled people by fear
In AA, they control people by telling them if they don't join their cult they will end up in jails, institutions, death. People that fail the cult indoctrination are explained as not being real alcoholics. People that die in the cult of AA are made martyrs saying that they didn't find the cult soon enough.
It is pure fear tactics, and it describes the cult of Alcoholics Anonymous.

"The Omega Man" Spiritual Bill Wilson virus Varient
In 1936, Spiritual warfare begins in a phone booth at the Mayflower Hotel in Akron, Ohio. The medical profession spearheaded by Dr. Robert Smith attempts to classify and impoverish what he has termed "Real Alcoholics" starting a worldwide mass hysteria of Rehabs and paid Bounty hunters called Interventionists to track down and bring their prey back to the home group to insure infection and delete all of their assets. Reminiscent of the Gladiator time of ancient Rome, TV shows are actively promoted where the prospects are preyed upon and followed to the death on camera such as Dr. Drew Pinsky and others. Because of a natural immune system that rejects the Spiritual Virus of Alcoholics Anonymous, the survivors of this plague gather at the Orange Papers to look for a way to destroy the Spiritual virus that is slowly destroying the world. Slowly plans are made and acted on to save the world from the plague spread by Bill Wilson, Dr. Bob and the elite storm troopers of Hazelden and the world has hope.
"Look for the similarities, not the differences."
"n March 1975, biological warfare between the People's Republic of China and the Soviet Union kills most of the world's population. U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel Robert Neville, M.D. (Charlton Heston), a scientist based in Los Angeles, California, begins to succumb to the plague but injects himself with an experimental vaccine just in time, rendering himself immune. The plague's surviving victims, meanwhile, join together as "The Family," a cult of nocturnal albino mutants who seek to destroy all technology.
Two years later, Neville believes he is the plague's only survivor, struggling to maintain his sanity. He spends his days hunting and destroying members of The Family. At night, living atop a fortified apartment building equipped with an arsenal of automatic firearms (such as a Smith & Wesson M76 submachine gun and an infrared sight-equipped Browning Automatic Rifle), and explosives (such as satchel charges), he is a prisoner in his own home. The Family wants to destroy him, believing him to be a last remnant of the old culture."

You are right. There is no reason for it to not be polite. But I do wonder why it is that the very thing the foks on this board claim to have encountered in AA is just what they promote here. They want to choose who is welcome based on their opinion. There doesn't seem to be room for dissent or acceptance of another has a differing point of view. It sounds rather cultish in its own way, although I am sure that they don't intend for it to...

Or they kept coming, hoping that one day it would stik. But the study that was just cited on this board did say that behavioral therapies and pharm therapies had some pisitive impact. I have always considered AA to be a behavioral therapy because, through the stepwork and the like, our behaviors are in fact modified. Mine sure were. Apologies
I've just seen Orange's post below. Sorry to have wrongly accused you of being Marietta. Troll paranoia seems to be at it's highest level at the moment.
If you are really interested in seeing a "no room for dissent" environment, try some of the pro-AA sites. A couple of us went to play on one one evening (e-AA) and we both got banned within an hour. Admittedly, that's what we were trying to do, but the speed and refusal to even tolerate us was unbelievable. Their policy of moderating posts they didn't like was disgraceful too.
You seem to have caught us at just the wrong moment. Orange is a staunch defender of freedom of speech, and this policy has overwhelming support from the members here. The forum is coming up to it's first birthday (doesn't time fly...lol) and in that whole time only 2 people have been banned, and both of them were in the last two weeks. They were given all the rope they needed - it was their choice whether to hang themselves or not.

There is a difference between "free speech" and "noise"
The main purpose of the cult members trying to disrupt the flow of information on this site is to fill the threads with "noise" and the usual apologetic slogans of AA. They are used to doing it on a micro scale in the rooms of Alcoholics Anonymous. The Orange papers is a "Think Tank" trying to identify the problems with Alcoholics Anonymous in my opinion. I may be wrong, but we have gathered together people who know that a problem exists, which disrupts the growth of Alcoholics Anonymous and the AA members are trying the tactics they have perfected over the last 70 some years to prevent this. Keep hammering them, to teach other people how to handle them.

She did express some curiosity about hiding IPs and may have gotten some advice on that before danny was banned again. But, as I said before, I think she's far too proud to deal with danny and his tactics.
