My 12 Step Experience, The Short Version

Yeah, I figured I'd just sum it up, and as this didn't really belong on another thread, here it is:

Pills Anonymous: Adding to the Problem

http://www.pillsanonymous.org/

I'm still on the search for treatment options that do NOT include a 12 step program/12 step treatment center/12 step ANYTHING for those who get addicted to prescription drugs. Somehow, in my search, I turned up an organization that was exactly what I wasn't looking for, link above.

As I feel very strongly on this subject, I figured I'd just let the link and above comments speak for themselves and welcome any other comments for now.

Marietta-Free Thread

Just for once, can there be a thread free of the tedious diversions of Marietta Davis/Clarietta etc.? Dissent is OK, just no freakin Marietta. Or discussion of Marietta. Or diversionary troll-moves by Marietta. Or discussions of Marietta.

OK, now that that's taken care of, anyone care to talk?

Notes on an NA Meeting

(Apologies for length. Cross-posted at my dinky little blog;)

Well, mission accomplished. I went back to a meeting at my former "home group", and while I knew it would look very, very different from my perspective of not being even in a semi-chronic state of relapse (rather, from the perspective of being completely clean for an extended period), it was more of a mess than I had thought it would be.

Stanton Peele Writes About "Intervention"

This is just probably my favorite thing Peele has ever written online. Sorry if everyone's already seen it, I missed out on some posts last week. This is from Peele's Psychology Today blog, Addiction in Society, on the A & E show, "Intervention":

"Intervene This"
http://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/addiction-in-society/201201/intervene

Read it all, it's short, it's great, and frankly just what I've been wanting someone to say about that damned show!

"Curing Addiction" Video Documentary

Just wanted to share this:

What they have is great and I agree wholeheartedly with the first woman especially, obviously also with Dr. Peele, and so on. Thoughts?

A System of Dualities and Contradictions

What struck me from day one of my entry into recovery culture were the dualities in almost everything discussed. These people are like shadowboxing for eternity, you never know which tactic they'll switch to next except that every one will include how wrong you were in whatever is being discussed. Of course, their own arguments are always contradicted by their own arguments, and if you point this out then get ready for the personal insults to start flying, usually with heaps of condescension.

BadRecovery

I have no idea why I chose such a silly name, but I did set up a small blog just to keep all of my stories written up in one spot, rather than having to share and share them again on forums, and hope this makes it easier for anyone wanting to know my point of view here. It also saves time for people who really just don't care!
